NRG APEX: READY FOR EWC GOLD

NRG APEX: READY FOR EWC GOLD

GOING FOR GOLD AT EWC!

NRG Apex is ready to take on Riyadh for the Esports World Cup!

In our first ever event at the EWC, NRG is poised to fight for gold with the trio of Nocturnal, Reptar and FunFPS as we battle it out for four days with the event beginning today. A massive $2 million prize pool is up for grabs for the trio, with first place taking home the gold medals and $600,000 to their names.

Slotted into Group B, NRG will open play on Friday in the group stage where they will compete in a series of 10 matches to earn as many points as possible. By securing a top-9 finish in the group stage, the team will automatically qualify for Sunday’s grand finals. Should NRG finish outside the top-9 in groups, they will advance to a last-chance qualifier bracket where there will be 20 teams for just 2 final spots.

Also in Group B are the likes of NA foes TSM and Spacestation Gaming, as well as the always dangerous Japanese trio of Fnatic. However, NRG avoids being in the same group as Team Falcons, who enter the event as the strongest team in ALGS play.

Tune in beginning today at 11 AM EST on the Esports World Cup Twitch channel and be sure to Bring The NRG when we take the stage Friday!

FINAL LCS SUMMER MATCHES ON TAP

NRG Kia League of Legends found themselves up against an unbeaten titan in the LCS last weekend in Cloud9, and despite an impressive showing the boys ultimately dropped the series 2-0.

Action at the Riot Arena began in strong fashion for NRG Kia, who found themselves slightly ahead in Game 1 in kills and in dragons slain through the first 28 minutes. However, the team was unable to secure Baron in the last team fight of the game and it proved to be a costly mistake. With a swift team ace for C9 earned, they claimed the Baron objective and marched right to the Nexus to end Game 1.

Unfortunately for NRG Kia, Game 2 was over as quickly as it began, with a three-for-none trade in the first 90 seconds going the way of C9 spelling doom for our side. With such an early disadvantage to climb back from, C9 were able to effectively capture multiple objectives and lead wire-to-wire for a game finish in under 30 minutes.

Next up for the team is a bounce back series against a struggling Dignitas side, with a win positioning the team solidly in a playoffs spot. The action kicks off on Sunday at 1 PM PT on the LCS Twitch channel!

SUMMER ACTION STILL HOT FOR NRG CS2

NRG CS2 is still in the Midsummer heat of action, playing in the ESL Challenger Series again this week along with another shot at the NA Revival Series this weekend.

Starting ECL play on Tuesday, the team ran into a roadblock against Party Astronauts, failing to capture one of the two maps on Inferno or Anubis. On Map 1 Inferno, the team’s slow start on attack resulted in a 4-8 deficit going into the half, and a second-half pistol round win for PA proved to be all the momentum needed to close out in a swift 13-5 fashion.

On Map 2 Anubis, NRG sported a much more even matchup against their opponent, remaining nearly deadlocked the entire way with a chance to win in regulation at 12-11. Unfortunately for the team, PA were able to force this match to OT and eke out very close rounds in extra time, earning a 16-13 victory and the series sweep.

Looking for a bounce back night against BOSS the team picked up a pair of wins against BOSS with a solid 13-5 win on Inferno before doubling back with a 13-6 victory on Anubis. The young fragger HexT continues to shine, earning 39 kills in the series with the entire team sporting a positive K/D ratio.

After another week of ECL play in the books, NRG CS2 will turn their attention to this week’s NA Revival Series matchup in the quarterfinals beginning this Saturday in a rematch against BOSS, so stay tuned to NRG Current for all the latest match updates!
