NRG Rocket League was back in person and in front of our loyal fans this past week at the Birmingham Major. Daniel, Beastmode, Atomic and Satthew took the stage and reminded us all how amazing Rocket League on LAN can be.
The team started out going 3-1 in the swiss stage, only falling in a close 2-0 round match vs. Vitality. With wins over Gen.G, Ultimates and Geekay, the team matched up vs. eventual tournament champions, Karmine Corp in the upper bracket playoffs on Saturday.
Despite ultimately falling to KC, the squad was able to bounce back in the lower bracket, beating a very tough opponent in Falcons, securing a top 4 placement at the event. This set the stage for a re-match with Ultimates for a chance to play in the grand finals. Unfortunately, we fell just short, losing in game 7 of the series, on a goal scored with just 14 seconds on the clock. A heartbreaking loss, that we won’t soon forget … but it’s hard to be too upset with a 3rd/4th place finish. The team will surely bounce back and look to bring home a trophy at the next LAN in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Outside of the server, Birmingham really showed the power of the community NRG has built in Rocket League over the years. We sold out of jerseys in under 4 hours, and had a line so long that security had to shut us down (again), at our booth. Despite being in the UK, our fans showed out and made us feel at home. Big shoutout to the NRG staff that created such a wonderful fan experience at the venue.
NRG VALORANT took the stage on Friday night vs. Furia, looking to bounce back after a week 1 loss to Cloud9. The team got off to a horribly slow start, dropping map 1 to the Brazilian side. FNS and crew were able to quickly turn things around though, losing only 6 rounds in the final two maps of the series (13-2, 13-4), to reverse sweep Furia, and secure our first win of the split. We now sit at 1-1 with 3 matches left to play this split.
Next up is a matchup vs. G2, widely considered the top team in the NA region, based on their strong showing at the VCT Kick Off event and Masters Bangkok. Despite the tough matchup, NRG VAL is feeling confident heading into the Saturday showdown. A win vs. G2 would likely clinch a playoff berth for the squad, the stakes are high! Make sure to tune in and support the boys. Match starts at 5:00 PM PST!
