HEARTBREAK
In a series that could have seen either team take the victory, NRG VALORANT found themselves on the receiving end of a heartbreaking loss Sunday, falling to Cloud9 and officially ending their 2024 VCT season.
Absolutely needing a series victory to maintain hopes of a berth into the VCT NA Playoffs, NRG VALORANT started strong with a convincing 13-3 victory on Map 1 Ascent. Ethan led the way with 15 kills, with teammates Victor and s0m also putting in positive performances to help carry the team with a flawless second half to close out with a series lead.
On Map 2 Icebox, both sides traded a series of rounds which saw the map tied at 10 apiece and NRG nearing a potential series sweep with massive implications for the standings. A 1v1 battle in the following round, however, went the way of C9 and proved to be the momentum and economy needed for the opposition to take a 13-10 win and level the series.
Still determined to grind out a series win, NRG quickly regained on Map 3 Sunset with a 7-5 first half scoreline, followed by five-straight rounds in the second half to put the team on map and series point at 12-5. Round 13 became elusive to capture, however, with C9 winning the following seven-straight rounds to force overtime. With the momentum lost in the fight, the final two rounds went to C9 for a 14-12 final. Despite the scoreline, s0m flashed his brilliance once more in his controller role, leading the team with a +16 kill/death differential and the team with 56 total kills.
It is a disappointing and bitter end for NRG VALORANT, who will now be forced to watch the rest of the season from the sidelines without qualifying for an international event in 2024. We want to thank the #NRGFam for all of their support and love throughout the year, and we know that this story will continue to have more exciting chapters written soon!

SHIFTING INTO SUMMER WITH NRG RL
NRG Rocket League was back in action yesterday with the Shift Summer League Play-Ins.
The duo of GarrettG and Aqua were joined by an exciting newcomer in Kofyr as we continue to retool our trio for next season’s RLCS action. Kofyr most recently competed on team “Cheers” and is an exciting addition to our team bringing a lot of offensive firepower.
With 16 teams vying for just four spots, NRG faced some tough challenges but were victorious in a 3-1 win over TSM in the lower bracket quarterfinals. However, a tough series against Incorrect proved to be what eliminated the team from contention with a 3-1 defeat.
This weekend, keep an eye out on the NRG Instagram page as well for our NRG Rocket League crew making an appearance at the Castle for another Panda Express bootcamp! We have a ton of fun challenge videos and behind the scenes content to capture and we can’t wait to share with you soon.
LAN ON THE LINE FOR NRG APEX
NRG Apex have one final matchday as they battle to make it to Mannheim, Germany for the ALGS Split 2 Playoffs.
In last weekend’s regular season finale, the team struggled to find their footing in games, with a four-kill Game 4 behind the standout highlight from the team. Overall, they finished with 22 points on the day, good enough for 16th place in the lobby.
The trio of Nocturnal, Reptar and FunFPS currently stand right on the cutoff line at 12th Place in the overall standings, with only the top-12 teams earning a spot into the German LAN later this summer. With a $1 million prize pool and potential World Championship qualification on the line, it is imperative that the team has a good showing this Sunday in the ALGS Split 2 NA Finals on Sunday at 3 PM PT. We know that they will Bring The NRG and clinch their spot.
Fans can stream the NA Finals this Sunday at 3 PM PT by tuning into the official Play Apex Twitch channel, and stay tuned to NRG Current for all match updates!
