NRG CS2 - ROUNDING INTO FORM
Winning nine-straight series against their competition, it’s safe to say that NRG CS2 is on a HEATER right now!
Starting last week with a strong showing against Party Astronauts, the squad participated in David’s Cup, a memorial tournament to honor a fellow CS2 competitor who passed away unexpectedly earlier this year. Taking down the likes of Boss, Elevate and Take Flyte (twice) the new squad earned their first tournament trophy as a team to become David’s Cup Champions.
With that momentum gained, the team returned to the server to close out the penultimate week of ESL Challengers League Season 47, earning a pair of 2-0 sweeps against One More Esports and LAG Gaming.
While the competition was certainly not as strong as some of our global counterparts we’re looking forward to competing against, the team led by IGL Walco and veterans such as oSee and Autimatic continue to build trust in each other and the results show. The fragging power of both HexT and Brehze consistently put the team above others as well, showcasing that NRG is building the right way for the ESL Pro League starting later this fall.
This weekend is STACKED with top shelf competition for NRG CS2, as we take on the NA Revival Cup as well as the Thunderpick World Championship, with the winner of the latter earning a bid into an $850,000 event in October. Be sure to stay tapped into NRG Current for the latest match updates, highlights and scores!
ONE LAST SHOT FOR NRG RL
Our second to last regional of the RLCS season is in the books, and it was another disappointing exit for the trio of NRG Rocket League.
GarrettG, Aqua and Mist began their run live on NRG Mission Control: Presented by Panda Express with arguably their toughest opponent in the field in Spacestation Gaming. A consensus top-3 team in NA, SSG has continued to be a prickly thorn in the side of NRG when attempting to make a deep run in the Swiss Stage, unable to overcome the high-octane offense that SSG displays. With the series opening at one game apiece, it was ultimately a Game 4 overtime win, lasting nearly four minutes over regulation, that propelled SSG ahead in the series and never looking back.
Against Shopify Rebellion, another team with a top-4 showing in the previous regional, it was old friend JSTN who offered a ton of offensive production for the side of SR. A total of 25 goals scored in just a four-game series across both sides would land in favor of the opposition. A pair of extremely challenging opponents and a pair of losses sent NRG clinging to their final life in the Swiss Stage and in need of a rebound.
With a convincing win against “bdw” in Round 3 in the books for NRG RL, it was a rematch against Dignitas, whom NRG eliminated from the previous regional, in Round 4 as the loser would be sent home packing. Seeking revenge, the two sides traded a pair of blowout wins before a pair of intense scorelines saw NRG down in the series 1-2 and down in Game 4 by a 0-1 deficit. Forcing the overtime, some incredible double touch heroics by Aqua kept the team’s dreams alive and sent the series to Champions Field. However, Game 5 didn’t have the same storybook ending, with DIG taking the Game 5, set and match by a 6-2 final.
NRG ultimately ended up finishing in a top-12 position, remaining on the outside looking in. With the final regional’s open qualifier starting this weekend, our team will be looking for a top-2 placement to keep our season alive for the rest of the year. Anything is possible, and we look forward to competing this weekend with the queen of the NRG Watch Parties, Chell, hosting NRG RL action each day this weekend at 4 PM PT!
